Out of every competitor in the Vital City Tournament, Roy didn't expect to stumble upon his savior. Noel was someone he had a history with, even if it was brief. Their short experience in Ultra Space was enough to build a relationship of sorts. However, this didn't deter Roy. This was his opportunity to size up his hero.

"I hope you're ready. I'm going all out."

Both Roy and his charizard were already locked to their designated spots in the arena. Balmung established his readiness by spraying a few flames from its throat. The challenger knew the ranger was no pushover, but he planned to abuse his opponent's heroic nature if necessary.

He couldn't believe his eyes. Here was Roy, who he had thought was all but long lost since their departure from Ultra Space. Overjoyed at this development, he wanted nothing more than to converse with the mysterious trainer. Yet that would have to be for another time, for now they had a match to get through, they could spend time together afterwards if they both wished.[break][break]

"Roy! I was wondering where you had gone to. I see you've entered this tournament as well. Don't worry, I plan on going all out too."[break][break]

With a swift tap to his Tera orb accessory, a swirl of energy begins to surround the small Shaymin who had already gone to its side of the field. It soon transformed into its Grass Tera, and while the Charizard was not a good matchup for the grass-type, it would try its best nonetheless.

"If you're sure." Roy scoffs at the hedgehog's terastalization.

The shaymin has no chance against his Charizard, or at least he thought. Roy didn't know much, but he knew this type match-up was in his favor. This pokemon was clearly a grass-type and Balmung was a fire-type. Maybe that was the intention, and the ranger was just patronizing him. Either way, Roy wouldn't go down without a fight.

"Try and keep up."

Like that, Balmung was already on the move. Wings thrust the dragon across the arena, but it wasn't enough momentum to establish a strong early blow. The charizard adapts by curving his body last second just so he could add the force of gravity to his attack. In the process of finishing the loop, Balmung covers his fist in a yellow glow as he comes down on the innocent hedgehog.

Roy seemed eager to get this match started. And already it was off to a rousing start. The Charizard spared no time in advancing with its attack, rushing forward with an electrified attack that would surely cause a rough start for the young trainer and his Shaymin should it connect. Soaring from above, the hedgehog wasn't left with many options in terms of defense or offense. A quick dodge was the only way to get out of the situation. Leaping to the side, it manages to barely evade the strike, sparks coming from the punch managing to land on the Shaymin, causing a jolt to run through its body and its fur to stick up.[break][break]

"Hmph, nice on there Roy. I see you're bringing everything to the table immediately. Well we'll do the same, see if you can take this!"[break][break]

Landing back on its feet, it would take aim before firing off a few Energy Balls to try and knock the flying lizard back and create some distance. If it wanted to get up close and personal, Noel's Pokemon would do everything in its power to deny them.

Despite the missed attack, the sparks from the dragon's fist would still apply a bit of damage. The ranger and his hedgehog respond with a volley of energy-based attacks. In an attempt to avoid the attack, the oversized lizard took to the skies which created a gap between him and his opponent. Like machinegun fire, the relentless energy balls made lightwork of the charizard's wings. The type difference allowed the fire-type to maintain his position in the air, but the blows still took their toll.

"Let's show him how we fight."

A clenched fist is pulled from the trainer's pocket and brought to his chest in an instant. Beams of light fire out from the crevices from the closed hand and the charizard is forced through a transformation sequence that carries a similar color. His skin is now black instead of orange and a blue flame is exhausted from his jaws. Balmung has Mega Evolved.

With bits of smoke and steam still dispersing from his skin, the dragon is back on the move. In a similar fashion to his previous attack, the demon uses his wings to close the distance between him and his target. Instead of channeling electricity into his punch, he engulfs his fist in a blue flame akin to the one pouring from his mouth.

The Mega Evolved Charizard was going to be a big issue. These Pokemon were known for their ferocity and relentlessness, not stopping at all until their opponent was down for good. Yet again it came with the intent to destroy all in its path. Only now with a fiery punch that would leave the Shaymin with an intense burn should it connect. Dodging this time would be no easy task. It would have to face the black-winged dragon head on.[break][break]

Coursing with energy, the hedgehog sends an Earth Power straight underneath itself, setting up a trap for when the time came. And soon would it trigger, for the Charizard had now arrived, landing an easy hit against the grass-type, causing its fur to catch on fire as it's sent barreling away across the ground. However, soon afterward the trap springs to life, causing jagged rock to spring out from beneath the Charizard's position, all aiming pierce against its hide.[break][break]

"Hmph, you've fallen for it. Let's see you try and get out of this one!"[break][break]

"Get out of the way!"

Roy's words are too slow.

Balmung accomplished his goal and made contact with the opponent, but that was all part of his opponent's plan. As soon as the grass-type hedgehog was thrown back, pieces of earth are summoned to retaliate. The jagged rock that floats around the dragon is immediately pulled to its center. The barrage of earth takes a bigger toll on the beast as he lost his flying-type during the process of Mega Evolution. Using his wings to take the brunt of the blow, Balmung struggles to defend himself in any way he can.

"Finish him."

Suddenly, a sky-colored glow erupts over the charizard and his wings are released. The glow is hotter than any natural fire, disintegrating any rock that gets too close. Steam and distortions of the air coat his exterior in patches. Other than his wings, the dragon does not move; he only hovers. There is a strange calm before he decides to attack.

Then that bluish radiance grows. It extends beyond just a few inches around his body. It twists and turns, like a cerulean blaze, similar to the one that surrounded his fist. Initiated by a savage roar, the demon charges forward like a torpedo. Behind him, flames are exhausted to hasten his speed. If contact is made, Balmung would do a full body tackle against his opponent.

Such fury could be felt all throughout the arena. This Charizard was no stranger to battle, its roar enough to make most foes tremble. If Noel and his Shaymin were anyone else, they more than likely would have frozen up in fear from seeing the blue hellfire being spewed from all around the dragon. And he did have some form of panic instilled into his heart from the sight, but to worry was useless. All they had to do was push on through and see this match to its end, fighting to the best of their abilities.[break][break]

"Stop them before they get the chance to close in Shaymin!"[break][break]

The hedgehog shakes its body as it gets back up on its feet, recovering from the last hit. The flame left its mark on the Pokemon, its body singed from the areas where the attack did its worse. It looks ahead to see the blue dragon rushing in for the potential finale. They couldn't afford any more mistakes, now was the time to even the playing field. There was but one option left, to put everything into this next attack. Taking up a stance, the small hedgehog takes aim and pulls in power from the sun, although weakened due to the weather, it was still their best shot. Once ready, it opens its mouth and lets loose a Solar Beam shot straight against the Charizard, hopefully stopping it in its tracks.

The poor shaymin's last attempt just wasn't enough. The hellfire demon cut through the beam of energy as if it was butter. With a type match-up like this one, Balmung was unstoppable. Like a rabid beast, he struck the hedgehog as soon as he was within distance and canceled any remaining bit of the solar beam.

That was it. The battle was over.

"Good work."

Balmung immediately powered down, returning to his previous state.

"Against all odds, you still managed to give me a run for my money." He scoffs as he walks across the arena. He presents a hand to his opponent that's carried by a grin. "Good game."
